Demographic Dimensions of Diversity Relevant for Extension Educators:

What To Look For, Why, and Where To Find the Data on The Web

6. Gender

We do not expect much deviation from a 100:100 ratio for this demographic variable, although some communities may have higher shares of males or females than others. For example, given differences in life expectation, retirement communities are likely to have more females than males. This may influence the types of information and programming that are most valuable to a community (e.g., issues related to women's health versus men's health).

Key variable

  • Males per 100 females
