Trail Alliance Description: The Allegheny Trail Alliance is a coalition of seven trail-building organizations in southwestern Pennsylvania and western Maryland whose purpose is to assure the construction, maintenance and use of the multi-purpose trail between Pittsburgh, PA, and Cumberland, MD, where the trail will join the C&O Canal Towpath Trail, which continues on to Washington, DC. for Smarter Growth Description: The Coalition for Smarter Growth is dedicated to preserving quality of life in the Washington Region for current and future generations. We believe that suburban sprawl is contributing to higher taxes in developing jurisdictions and to disinvestment and blight in older communities. We oppose public spending for an Outer Beltway which will contribute to sprawl without reducing traffic gridlock; destroy farmland, open space, and the environment; and subsidize the continued movement of jobs and residents from our Nation's Capital and older suburbs. Coast Greenway
Description:
The East Coast Greenway will be the nation's first long-distance, city-to-city,
multi-modal transportation corridor for cyclists, hikers, and other non-motorized

owned and managed to form a continuous, safe, green route -- easily identified
by the public through signage, maps, users guides, and common services.

The Maryland Scenic Byways program funds the development of community-based
corridor management plans (CMP), which make scenic byways eligible for
additional grants as well as a National Scenic Byway designation. A CMP
is a guide for the promotion, preservation and development of a scenic

roadway safety, highway signs or the preservation of natural features
