Full Job Description
The Northeast Regional Center for Rural Development (NERCRD) is located in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology and Education within Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences. The Center’s mission is to work on and coordinate a broad range of issues with land grant universities and other partners in the Northeast as well as nationally in support of rural development. In addition to a Director, the Center employs a business manager as well as a communications-public relations professional, post-docs and graduate students.
The NERCRD is seeking applications for an Associate Director position. The position involves an academic appointment at the Assistant Research Professor level on a non- tenure track basis and is renewable annually conditional on funding. The individual will be responsible for leading the Center’s outreach oriented activities in consultation with the Director by (1) fostering relationships among northeast land grant universities and key rural development partners; (2) identifying and responding to opportunities for cross-state collaborations and sharing of programs; (3) pursuing funding opportunities in potentially high-impact areas that would benefit from outreach programming; (4) providing expertise and direction in developing and implementing program strategies, including helping to translate scientific findings into practice.
The successful candidate is expected to conduct independent research, to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and to secure external funding. Starting Date: August 1, 2020 or as negotiated. A Ph.D. in agricultural economics, rural sociology, or related behavioral or social science field is required. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date, and prior experience in the field will be of advantage. The ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty and staff across the land grant university system and practitioners is required. In addition, a valid US driver’s license is required at the time of application.
